As a result of being selected as a finalist in London's prestigious Annual Portrait Competition in 1982, she was taken on by the Royal Academy of Art's Business Galleries as a portrait artist and worked and taught drawing and painting in London until moving to the U.S. in 1992.
Robin graduated from Boston's School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University with a Masters Degree in Fine Art and has been based in the U.S. since that time.
Robin has work in collections throughout the U.S. and continues to teach drawing and painting at the college level. Her teaching positions have included Advanced Life Drawing and Animal Drawing at the School of Visual Arts, New York City, Drawing and Painting at Tufts University and SMFA, Boston.
She has recently spent time painting in Oaxaca, Mexico and Paris, France.
Robin was born in Nairobi, Kenya to British parents. Her father was an architect with the Colonial Service and a talented amateur painter. Her mother was a journalist.
Robin attended many art classes as a child. Until she went to Art School at the age of 17, she had schooling in Kenya, London, Spain and Ireland.
She did her Foundation year at Falmouth School of Art in Cornwall, England and subsequently studied at Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1980 from Edinburgh College of At. In her Degree show, Robin exhibited several large paintings on canvas of unusual people she knew as well as a series of drawings and intimate watercolours. This led to further exhibitions and some portrait commissions.
